Trainspotting

Released; 1996

Location; Glasgow and Edinburgh, Scotland, UK.

Adapted from the Irvine Welsh novel, Trainspotting was the biggest movie to be set in Scotland since Gregory’s girl and it could not have been more different.

Set in Edinburgh and following the main character Renton (Ewan McGregor) and his attempts to break his heroin addiction but each time being dragged back by his friends.

Rarely does a film so completely tap into the culture of the time it is released. With its hugely popular soundtrack that was played everywhere in 1996, a solid cast of established and up and coming actors and a director (Danny Boyle) at the top of his game. Trainspotting was being both celebrated as the best film of the year on TFI Friday and despised for its drug references on Newsnight.

The whole world seemed to have a Trainspotting inspired poster and “choose life” was the slogan for everthing in 1996.

Although set in Edinburgh a surprising amount of the film was shot in Glasgow (a story you will hear time and again).

I class this set as a little incomplete as I would like to add the interiors of the cafe in Maryhill and the pub where Begbie throws the glass but I will get to it some day.

I hope you enjoy the videos and picture sets below and if you have any connection to the film please get in touch and let me know.
