Ghostbusters

Released; 1984

Location; New York City, USA.

The story of three parapsychology professors who lose their jobs at the university and set up their own business catching ghosts.

Another absolute classic from the 1980’s which spawned a sequel with the imaginatively titled Ghostbusters 2 which also features in the location sets below.

With both of the movies being set and filmed in the same city it was easy to identify the locations but being spread out the full length of Manhattan it was a lot of walking and riding the subway to cover the ground between the sets.

The outside shots of the fire station are probably the most iconic from the movie and the best bit is the fire station is a real building in New York and is still a real fire station  at 14 North Moore street. Dont expect to get inside as it is a working firestation and even if you did go inside, the interior shots were filmed in a disused firehouse in L.A. (The same building used as the muffler shop in The Mask).

I visited these locations along with other New York sets while in the city on honeymoon in 2012 (remember what I said about having an amazing wife?) and it was a great way to explore the city.

Dave.

Screen shots from the film remain the property of the film studio.
