Taggart

First broadcast; 1983

Location; Glasgow, Scotland, UK.

“Thurs been a murrrrder!”

From 1983 the playgrounds and pubs of Glasgow were home to hundreds of similar impersonations of the gruff Chief inspector Taggart.

Starting as a mini series Killer on the evening of September 6th 1983 the show was quick to become a favorite with Glaswegians and then viewers from further afield when it went nationwide on ITV and UTV.

Shown at a time when Glasgow had still not hosted the Garden Festival in 1988 or been the European city of culture in 1990, Taggart would have been the first taste of the city on popular media for a lot of people.

It definitely boosted Glasgows profile as a city. Not allways for the better but as they say, “all publicity is good publicity”.

From a personal point of view it was great watching my own city on TV and of course spawned one of the best put downs available when you could call somebody a “Dunderheid”.

So far I have only traced the locations from the first 6 episodes but when I get the time I will add more episodes to the collection so keep checking back and sign up to my Facebook page for updates and notifications.

I hope you enjoy the videos and picture sets below and if you have any connection to the film please get in touch and let me know.
